Workshop: Holotropic Breathwork as a therapeutic tool for Bipolar Disorder
Among Holotropic Breathwork facilitators, it is widely recognized that Holotropic Breathwork is contra-indicated for working with people with deeper disorders, such as bipolar disorder. However, Sean Blackwell has found that, in a private retreat setting, breathwork can be an extraordinarily powerful tool which can lead to transformational results in a relatively short period of time. In this workshop, Sean will present his Bipolar Awakenings Healing Retreat, a program he started in 2013, to help people heal the trauma which is commonly at the root of bipolar disorder, and other related disorders. The workshop will focus on how small modifications to the standard Holotropic Breathwork format have led to increasingly positive results. A few of Sean’s clients are expected to join him, to share their experiences of healing.
For over a decade, Sean Blackwell has been researching the spiritual dimension of bipolar disorder, and its potential for deep healing. Since 2007, he has been producing videos for his YouTube channel, bipolarORwakingUP, which has reached 3 million views. His videos cover subjects such as spiritual emergency, transpersonal psychology and the evolution of consciousness, demonstrating how these themes relate to bipolar disorder. His book, “Am I Bipolar or Waking Up?” describes his own “bipolar awakening”, subsequent hospitalization and complete recovery. In 2016, Sean was certified as a Holotropic Breathwork facilitator with Grof Transpersonal Training. Together with his wife, Ligia Splendore, his current project is the Bipolar Awakenings Healing Retreat, which combines meditation and holotropic breathwork into a powerful source of healing and transformation for people diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
