Stanislav Grof, M.D., Ph.D. is psychiatrist with more than fifty-year experience with research of the healing, transformative and heuristic potential of non-ordinary states of consciousness. He is one of the co-founders and main theorists of transpersonal psychology. Dr. Grof is also the founder of the International Transpersonal Association (ITA) and its past president. With his late wife Christina, he developed holotropic breathwork, a highly efficient psychotherapeutic and self-developmental method, and organized big international transpersonal conferences all around the world. He still leads workshops within professional training programs of holotropic brathwork and transpersonal psychology and teaches as a professor of psychology at the Philosophy, Cosmology and Consciousness Faculty of the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco.
Dr. Grof published more than 160 scholarly articles and books Realms of the Human Unconscious; LSD Psychotherapy; The Adventure of Self-Discovery; Beyond the Brain; The Cosmic Game; Psychology of the Future; When the Impossible Happens; The Ultimate Journey; Spiritual Emergency; The Stormy Search for the Self, and Holotropic Breathwork (the last three with his late wife Christina Grof). His books were translated into more than 20 languages.He received Honorary Award from the Association for Transpersonal Psychology for major contributions to and development of the field of transpersonal psychology (1993), prestigious „Vision 97“ Award from the Dagmar and Vaclav Havel Foundation in Prague (2007) and Thomas R. Verny Award from the Association for Pre- and Perinatal Psychology and Health for his pivotal contributions to this field (2010).
