New Ways of Knowing: Enhancing Science for a New Paradigm

Science’s impressive contributions to the improvement of human life are widely recognized and appreciated, despite several serious errors of omission for which we will be paying the price for generations. Science’s almost total disregard of the human mind in its modeling of the natural world has led to an incomplete, distorted picture of what it means to be a human being. Yet science today is modern society’s primary provider of new knowledge and the preferred arbiter of “truth” for additions from any source.

The crucial key to a resolution lies not in science but in psychology, mainly its transpersonal leading edge, which for sixty years has been foraging the unconscious mind for deeper understanding. Being less restricted, its explorations of the psyche have opened the door to new discoveries and perspectives, especially the inner processes governing individual growth and creativity, the primary role of consciousness, and unleashing human potential—all part of an emerging shift of paradigm to new ways of thinking and viewing the world.

This transpersonal view features man’s natural intuitive faculty, which is everyman’s direct and rightful access to virtually unlimited knowledge and a viable option to science-based means. The Center for Applied Intuition endeavored to understand how intuition functions in the mind and to utilize it for obtaining useful information. A method called consensual intuitive inquiry was devised and applied in a dozen varied subject areas, then tested for novelty and accuracy when testing was possible. The results were productive with an almost zero error rate. This method is now ready to be applied in any knowledge-limited area, ranging from highly technical topics to the intimate and personal.

This presentation covers the scientific and transpersonal background, consensual intuitive inquiry, its scope and application, the confirmation of its capabilities and implications for the emerging paradigm shift.

William H Kautz (ScD MIT) conducted and administered basic an applied research in computer science, geophysics and health at SRI International for 35 years before retiring as Staff Scientist in 1985. He taught at Stanford University, Technical University of Denmark and other academic institutions. He then founded the Center for Applied Intuition (CAI) in San Francisco CA, which explored the nature of intuition and is application in various fields. He is the author of seven books and fifty journal articles, and currently lives, writes and teaches in Tucson AZ and Prague, Czech Republic.
